At the January 20, 2025 Executive Committee Meeting, the rule changes previously announced were finalized and adopted. Thanks to the Club Members who submitted comments and participated in the discussion. All members need to be aware of the following significant rule changes:

1.8       Wear Eye and Ear Protection as Appropriate.

1.8.2     All persons on any firearm range must wear eye protection at all times. All persons on any firearm range must wear ear protection as appropriate whenever the line is HOT. All persons must wear eye protection on the airgun range at all times.

2.2       50 Meter Range

2.2.4     This range is primarily intended for rifle (long gun) shooting. Shooters using high-power rifles with loud reports should give consideration to other shooters, particularly by moving to the west end of the line, nearest the Sheriff’s property.

2.2.4.1  Only Members with a specific 50m Pistol Qualification are allowed to shoot a pistol or any other type of handgun on this range. For the purpose of this section, an AR style pistol (or the equivalent) with a brace, which is being fired while mounted on the shoulder, is not considered a pistol or other type of handgun.

2.2.4.2  No guests are allowed to shoot a pistol or any other type of handgun on this range. As used in this paragraph, “guest” includes both non-members and also Members who do not have a specific 50m Pistol Qualification.

2.2.4.3  The minimum distance for shooting pistols or any other type of handgun on this range is 25 yards from the firing line.

2.2.4.4  Shooters using handguns must give consideration to the trajectory of their projectiles. All projectiles must impact the face of the impact berm. No projectiles may ever be allowed to strike the ground or the small berms protecting the target turning mechanism.

2.2.7     To obtain authorization to use the 50 Meter Range with a pistol or other type of handgun, a Member of the Club in good standing must receive a special orientation briefing on the specific safety requirements for doing so by either the Executive Officer or the Chief Instructor (or their delegate), and pass a specific 50m Pistol Qualification.

2.2.7.1  The special orientation will emphasize the requirement that all rounds impact the face of the impact berm and describe techniques to ensure that this requirement is fulfilled every time.

2.2.7.2  To obtain the specific 50m Pistol Qualification, the following must be demonstrated:

         Proper setting of a target;

         Shooting proficiency by obtaining a minimum of 8 hits out of 10 shots on a clean 18” x 24” target placed at the impact berm of the 50 Meter Range with a pistol or other type of handgun fired from an unsupported standing position, using either a one-handed or two-handed grip, with all 10 shots impacting the face of the impact berm; and

         Shooting proficiency by obtaining a minimum of 10 hits out of 10 shots on a clean 8½” x 11” target placed at 25 yards from the firing line of the 50 Meter Range with a pistol or other type of handgun fired from an unsupported standing position, using either a one-handed or two-handed grip.

Any pistol or other type of handgun used for this qualification must be designed to be fired when held in one hand; must use centerfire ammunition of 9mm (or more powerful) if a semi-automatic pistol or .38 Special (or more powerful) if a revolver; and use iron sights or a holographic red dot type sight, but no telescopic sights are permitted for the qualification.

2.3       100 Meter Range

2.3.4     This range is primarily intended for rifle (long gun) shooting.  It is, however, acceptable to fire pistol caliber carbines or rimfire smallbore rifles. Pistols or any other type of handguns are not allowed to be used on this range except by Club Members with a specific 50m Pistol Qualification who are under the direct supervision of a Range Safety Officer, by Club Members with a specific 50m Pistol Qualification who are under the direct supervision of a present member of the Executive Committee, or under direct supervision during an authorized match or an official practice session. Any person supervising the use of any pistol or other type of handgun has the discretion to refuse to allow any person from so using this range under their supervision, and must give consideration to the trajectory of the projectiles. All projectiles must impact the face of the impact berm. No projectiles may ever be allowed to strike the ground. For the purpose of this section, an AR style pistol (or the equivalent) with a brace, which is being fired while mounted on the shoulder, is not considered a pistol or other type of handgun.

2.4       300 Meter Range

2.4.5     This range is primarily intended for high-power rifle (long gun) shooting. It is, however, acceptable to fire pistol caliber carbines or rimfire smallbore rifles. Shooters using pistol caliber carbines or smallbore rifles must give consideration to the trajectory of their projectiles. All projectiles must impact the face of an impact berm. No projectiles may ever be allowed to strike the ground. Under no circumstances may a shooter point the muzzle of a loaded firearm above the highest impact berm. Shotguns may not be fired on this range except when using single projectiles (slugs or sabots). Pistols or other types of handguns may not be fired on this range.  For the purpose of this section, an AR style pistol (or the equivalent) with a brace, which is being fired while mounted on the shoulder, is not considered a pistol or other type of handgun.

2.6       Pistol-Only Ranges

2.6.4     This range is exclusively intended for pistol (handgun) shooting. Pistols chambered for typical rifle calibers (for example, .223 Remington, .308 Winchester, etc.) may not be used. However, pistols chambered for higher velocity rimfire ammunition (.22WMR and more powerful, including .17HMR, .17HM2 and the like) and FN 5.7 x 28mm ammunition may be used on this range.

5.2       Range Safety Officers

5.2.7     All Club Members should be mindful of the other Members and guests on the Club property, and if an infraction or apparent infraction of these rules is observed, the person committing the alleged infraction should be approached in a spirit of cooperation to correct the problem. In all interactions with a Club Member raising a safety concern, all Members and their guests must be respectful of the Member raising the safety concern.

All Members’ 50m Pistol Qualifications will be removed from their badges at renewal. The new 50m Pistol Qualification procedure will be announced once finalized.  RSOs will be enforcing the new rules immediately.  No new 50m Pistol Qualifications will be given until after April 1, 2025. Members with a current 50m Pistol Qualification will be able to shoot pistols on the 50m Range until March 31, 2025, subject to the other rules now in effect on that range, including the minimum distance for target placement.  No guest or Member without a 50m Pistol Qualification may shoot pistols on the 50m range.  New signage will be developed and posted.
