What are the rules?
Central Florida Carbine Rules Version 1.0.3 – Effective 08/28/2025
Equipment Rules
Firearm - A semi-automatic rifle or equivalent*. All Sig Sauer P320, P320 variants, and P320 chassis systems are not allowed on Club property and may not be used in this match. See "News" tab for details.
Body Armor - Body armor is not required, but welcomed and encouraged.
Other Optional Equipment - Shooting bags/rests/bipods/tripods, and the like, cannot be pre-staged before the start of the stage. This is equivalent to "modifying the stage", which is not allowed. They can be on the shooter, or on their gun before the timer start, and then used accordingly throughout the stage.
Divisions:
Irons – This is a division for true iron sights. No Optical Sights allowed.
Limited – single non-magnified optic (e.g. red dot w/ no magnifier).
Open - any magnified optic, lasers, use of bipods, shooting bags, or any other support equipment - multiple optics/rifles (e.g. multiple red dots, scope + red dot, magnifiers, different rifles for different stages).
PCC - Pistol Caliber Carbine for short range stages, rifle caliber for long range stage, equipped in any manner.
HEAVY - full-power battle rifles equipped in any manner (e.g. .308 Win, 7.62x54R, .30-06, etc.).
Rimfire = Rimfire Carbines (.22LR, .22Long, .22Short) for short range stages, rifle caliber for long range stage, equipped in any manner.
* - The match director may override this rule on a case by case basis. Contact the match director for questions. Reference the FAQ for known allowed exceptions.
Due to time constraints and match flow, there will be no stage reshoots. If a stage incompletion was caused by the shooter's gear/equipment, such as a firearm stoppage, even if a hard catastrophic failure, it will not generate a reshoot. The shooter can either fix the issue safely on the clock by clearing the stoppage, take the penalties as scored, or take a Did Not Finish (DNF). The only instances that will generate a reshoot are the following:
-
-
- Stage prop/target malfunctions that do not allow the shooter to continue, become a safety hazard, give or take away a stage advatnage, or interfere with the shooter
- RO or other outside interference, within reason
- Any other safety concern out of the shooter's control (match director has ultimate discretion)
-
SCORING
Time Plus Scoring Unless otherwise stipulated in the written stage briefing, any cardboard target designated as a “shoot” target must be neutralized by either one (1) “A” – OR – two (2) hits anywhere inside the scoring perforations on the target (i.e. minimum 2 “D” hits) to avoid a penalty. HEAVY division is one (1) hit anywhere inside of the outer scoring perforation. Note: if used, IDPA targets the -0 is considered “A” zones. Hits on “hard cover” issues no penalty.
Hard cover zones are NOT scoring zones.
Scoring Penalties Failure to Neutralize - One B, C, or D hit only (-1 or -3 zones on IDPA targets) = 5 second penalty per target
Complete Miss - No hits on paper target but target was engaged = 10 second penalty per target
Failure to Engage – A paper target was not engaged by the shooter = 15 second penalty per target
Hit on Non Threat - Designated “No Shoot” targets that are hit will incur a 5 second penalty for each hit breaking perforation.
Miss On Steel Long Range – 10 seconds per missed hit.
Failure to Engage Long Range - 15 seconds per target.
Procedural - 5 seconds added to the shooters time per procedural error. Stage description will specify what is considered a procedural error for that course of fire.
No reshoots - Unless the stage props/targets failed, or the RO interfered (not by intentional cause of the shooter), or any other safety issue or outside interference, there will be no reshoots allowed. This includes if the shooter had a malfuntion on their gear/equipment, wether catastrophic or "hard stoppage". If the shooter's equipment malfunctions, it is up to them to clear it on the clock safely and continue. If not, a stage DNF will be assessed or will be scored as-is.
WHAT ARE THE SAFETY RULES?
Central Florida Rifle & Pistol club operates a cold range.
All firearms are unloaded until under direct instruction of the RO.
Safeties must be engaged while moving unless shooting on the move.
If the firearm's chamber is loaded, the muzzle must be pointed below the top of impact berms at all times.
Eye protection must be worn at ALL times on the range.
Firearms must be in a cart, slung muzzle down, or encased. Chamber flags are always required unless the firearm is in a case.
Match Disqualifications Accidental Discharge – A Match DQ will be assessed for any of the following:
A shot which travels over a backstop, or a berm in any other direction specified in the written stage briefing by the match organizers as being unsafe. Note that a competitor who legitimately fires a shot at a target which then travels in an unsafe direction will not be disqualified.
A shot which strikes the ground within 10 feet of the competitor except when shooting at a paper target closer than 10 feet to the competitor.
A shot which occurs while loading, preloading, reloading or unloading a firearm.
A shot which occurs during remedial action in the case of a malfunction.
A shot which occurs while transferring a firearm between hands or shoulders.
A shot which occurs during movement except while actually shooting at targets.
Unsafe Gun Handling – A Match DQ will be assessed for any of the following:
During the course of fire after the “make ready” command and before the “range is clear” command a competitor allows the muzzle to break the 180 degree safety plane.
During the course of fire after the “make ready” command and before the “range is clear” command a competitor drops a firearm, loaded or not.
Sweeping any person with the muzzle of any firearm, whether loaded or not, even if a chamber flag is inserted, at any time during the match.
Pointing a loaded firearm muzzle over the backstop berms.
Unsafe firing - A Match DQ will be assessed for repeated shots landing short of the intended target on the ground plane. (i.e. long range shots landing way short and in front of the target, etc.)
Improper ammunition - A Match DQ will be assessed for using improper ammunition (see ammunition section)
What ammunition types are not allowed?
The following types of ammunition are NOT allowed to be used:
Tracer
Incendiary/Explosive
The following types of ammunition have restricted use only on paper/cardboard targets and CANNOT be used on steel targets:
Armor Piercing (AP) - typically branded/marketed or specifically designed to be of the AP type. These are normally denoted with black painted tips, but are not always.
5.56 M855 "green tip" - Although not specifically designed or branded/marketed as AP, the hardened core damages our steel targets.
Note: 5.45x39mm 7N6 load is OK and allowed to be used on steel targets. In some testing, it performs weaker than some very hot commercial .223 Rem FMJ loads, even though 7N6 does have a "hardened" core.
What else do I need?
Eye Protection is mandatory and must be worn at ALL times while on the Leath Action Range and the Long Range. Ear Protection is mandatory only when inside the bays and their respective awnings.
Bring your own water and refreshments.
